Europa Worldwide Group has employed its first Head of Property who is leading the construction of its new £60 million, 715,000 sq ft state-of-the-art 3PL facility.
Europa Worldwide Group is an ambitious independent logistics operator and the new site will become Europa’s largest in the UK and is part of Europa Warehouse offering of 3PL warehousing and logistics.
Alec Kirkbride, Head of Property and Facilities at Europa has experience in managing multiple large-scale national infrastructure construction projects and the property management and maintenance of complex commercial sites. He also has extensive experience in negotiating multimillion-pound complex procurement contracts.
Prior to joining Europa, Alec worked at Aldi Stores UK in a National Construction Manager capacity, leading a four-year period of intense warehouse infrastructure growth for the retailer.
Now transitioning into the logistics sector, Alec’s role covers Commercial Real Estate, Procurement, Health and Safety, Construction Project Management and Engineering across the expanding operation at Europa.
Head of Property is a new role and reflects Europa’s growing portfolio which has expanded in recent years. In the past two years alone Europa has acquired two businesses and now has 16 UK sites.
Based at Midlands Logistics Park in Corby, (Northamptonshire) Europa’s latest £60m warehouse scheme is due for completion in June 2020. Construction is on schedule and the company is on target for completion to deliver a ‘best in class’ logistics facility on time and within budget.
Europa Warehouse already operates award-winning warehouse sites in Dartford, Minworth (near Birmingham) and elsewhere in Northampton. This new facility will double Europa Warehouse’s logistics portfolio and is being constructed to a high-quality institutional specification, including above market standard 18 metres of height to facilitate three floors of mezzanines.
“I’m currently heavily involved in the Corby build, especially at this stage of proceedings. Once operational, the day to day management of the Warehouse will be handed over to Warehouse Director, Maria-Torrent March. My role as Head of Property covers all of the Europa real estate including our warehouses and an extensive network of offices. I’ll be looking at how we can drive business efficiencies, reviewing current procurement methods and suggesting ways in which we can inject new ideas to add value to our current business model.”
Andrew Baxter, Managing Director at Europa Worldwide Group said:
“With the new site at Corby being such a huge investment it was important to have someone on board who could prioritise managing the site, with the required experience to navigate any challenges we may encounter along the way.
“Alec joining the team gives us a huge advantage – his knowledge and experience will be invaluable during the process of the build and vital in ensuring we deliver against all set time and budget requirements.”
