The Energy & Environment Alliance (EEA) has signed a three-year strategic partnership agreement with renewable energy giant Drax, to help the hospitality sector embrace the latest electric vehicle charging technology.

EEA, the not-for-profit coalition of hospitality sector leaders, is establishing robust ESG standards for designing, building, and managing hotels.

Renewable energy pioneer, Drax, has come on board, making a substantial contribution to drive this project forward. The partnership will provide members of the EEA with market intelligence and briefings on the demand for electric vehicles and the latest charging technologies and it will offer its extensive knowledge to various EEA’s committees.

Drax and the EEA both envisage a future in which electric vehicles become increasingly popular; and hotels will be a place where drivers will expect to charge them.

EEA Chairman, Peter Till, said: “We are delighted to be forging a strategic relationship with Drax, which is taking a visionary approach towards sustainable energy. Amongst other things, it has considerable expertise in the provision of charging points for electric vehicles – new technology which will be of interest to many of our members. Hotels are an obvious location for EV charging, as the service will help attract guests and provide an additional source of revenue.”

Adam Hall, Director of Energy Services – Drax Group, said: “Drax has a track record of decarbonising, having converted our power station from coal to sustainable biomass, as well as supporting thousands of businesses in their transition to EVs. With this partnership we will combine our expertise in enabling businesses to be more sustainable through innovative EV products and services with the EEA’s impressive pioneering drive towards net zero in the hospitality industry to support further decarbonisation.”
